When the local authority have collected enough information on the child or young person’s needs, they will make a decision on whether or not it is necessary to issue an EHC Plan.
If the decision is to issue an EHC Plan, the local authority must provide the parent or guardian with a first draft of an EHC plan. This allows the young person, parent or guardian to make any comments.
Check the first draft of the EHC Plan
At this draft stage, the parents or young person can request changes to make sure the plan reflects the child or young person’s individual special educational needs and the provision required to support them.
It is important to check that the draft plan describes each and every special educational need of the child or young person and that there is a provision in place for each specified need.
