  • giving back to the community

Who can volunteer

Anyone is welcome to volunteer with us.

If we think you are suitable for a people-focused volunteer role we will need you to have an enhanced DBS Check.  We carry these checks out as part of the volunteer recruitment process.

Volunteer roles

There are several types of volunteer roles here at SENDIAS Bathnes. These include administrative, marketing and communication roles. Most of our volunteers offer their time as Parent Champions. All of our volunteers who become Parent Supporters have first been Parent Champions.

Parent Champion

You don't need to be a parent to be a Parent Champion, but you will be trained to carry out the role. Parent Champions are volunteers who give a few hours a week to chat to other families about what we do and which other services are available locally. This helps marginalised or isolated parents who might miss out on important information on how to access local family services.

Volunteer Supporter

We train all Volunteer Supporters to provide confidential, impartial information, advice, and support to children, young people and parents or carers. This support empowers people to make informed choices regarding a child or young person's special educational needs.

Volunteer Supporters assist our Information and Advice Officers who connect them with families. Sometimes Volunteer Supporters meet one to one with families to help them gather information and talk about other organisations who could support them. Volunteer Supporters may also attend meetings with the family and other professionals to discuss the best options available to support the child or young person and their family.

Volunteer Administrator

Volunteer Administrators support our friendly and professional team. Tasks include telephoning our service users for feedback and assisting with marketing and general administrative tasks.
